More about Alexander Bissett

Alexander Bissett   3/4183   Black Watch

DUNDEE MAN AWARDED THE D.C.M.

The Distinguished Conduct Medal has been awarded to Company Sergeant-Major Alexander Bissett, 3d Black Watch, a Dundee man, for services rendered during the British advance on 25th September, 1915, when all the officers in his regiment were killed.

On the outbreak of war Sergeant-Major Bissett, who had previously served in a Territorial battalion of the Black Watch, joined the 8th Black Watch, and was for a short period on the recruiting staff at Dundee.  The 8th Black Watch, went out to France with the first lot of Kitchener’s army, and Sergeant-Major Bissett was there until a few

months ago, when he was invalided home.  He is now attached to the 3d Black Watch.  Prior to the outbreak of war Sergeant-Major Bissett was employed in the garage of Rossleigh, Ltd., Dundee.

Private James Bissett, a son of Sergeant-Major Bissett, is at present serving in France with the 3d Highland Field Ambulance R.A.M.C.

Dundee Courier 4th February 1916
