Son of Alexander Cormack and Margaret (Birss) Cormack.
Served with the Gordon Highlanders in India and South Africa between 1897 and 1902.
Married Grace Isabella Fawns in 1903 in Scotland. They came to Canada in 1906, settling first near Hamiota, Manitoba, and by 1910 near Pennant, Saskatchewan.
At the start of World War One, he was one of the first to enlist for war service, going overseas to England with the 5th (Western Cavalry) Battalion. He was seriously injured in a training accident and was invalided back to Canada for discharge. Before he could be discharged, he was appointed as an instructor with several battalions, including the 61st, 101st, 181st and 209th Battalions. He went back to England with the 181st Battalion in April 1917, where he was appointed as an instructor with the 18th Reserve Battalion. His previous injury caused him much grief, and he was eventually voluntarily invalided back to Canada. He was discharged at his own request on April 06, 1918 at Regina, Saskatchewan. He continued to farm near Pennant until retiring in the late 1930’s when he moved to Burnaby, British Columbia.
