More about Alfred Heffell

Alfred Heffell   11575   Royal Field Artillery

DUNDEE BOMBARDIER AND “OLD CONTEMPTIBLE”

WINS MILITARY MEDAL FOR GALLANTRY.

Bombardier Alfred Heffell, R.F.A., who is one of the “contemptible little army” which so gallantly faced the Kaiser’s hordes in August, 1914, has been awarded the Military Medal.  The gallant bombardier was a regular soldier, and crossed to France when hostilities broke out. He has been in the fighting all the time, and has never received a scratch.

Bombardier Heffell, whose wife resides at 20 Pennycook Lane, Dundee, is 24 years of age.  His commanding officer informed Mrs Heffell that her husband had been awarded the honour for gallantry in the field.  Mrs Heffell belongs to a military family.  Her father and two brothers are serving.
