Brewis John Brown   292455   Black Watch

BROWN―Killed in action on 23d April, Private Brewis J. Brown, Black Watch, aged 19, of Southview, Ceres, youngest son of the late Mr and Mrs John Brown, 53 Erskine Street, Dundee.

Dundee Evening Telegraph 6th June 1917

CERES FAMILY HARD HIT.

Mr John Forrester, South View, Bridgend, Ceres, has been notified that his nephew, Private Brewis Brown, Black Watch, who had not been heard of since 23d April, had been killed in action on the date.

Private Brown was only 19 years of age, and had been on the western front for about six months. Before joining the colours, he was in the employment of Mr Dott Thomson, ironmonger, Cupar.

Within the last six months Mr Forrester has had the misfortune to lose a son, a son-in-law, and now his nephew, whom he had brought up.  Another two sons are still serving with the colours, one of whom was severely wounded some time ago and is still in hospital in England.
