More about C. M. Carroll
According to Deaths at Sea she was the wife of the late Mr Carroll and was born in Dundee. There is little other information other than she does not appear on any ship in the 1915 Crew Lists. The SS Golconda was en route from the Tees and London to Calcutta with a general cargo when she sank on 3 June 1916 after striking a mine laid by German submarine UC-3 approximately 5 miles South of Aldeburgh, Suffolk. Eleven women and men died. She is commemorated in the Scottish National War Memorial in Edinburgh Castle (No 95996) and the Tower Hill Memorial in London. The Deaths at Sea Record has the initials C M altered in hand writing to A M.
