More about David Muckart

For reasons unknown this man is not listed on the original Dundee Roll of Honour, but is remembered on Dundee’s Harris Academy Honour Roll.

“He joined up on 4th of August 1,914 as a Trooper in the 1st Welsh Horse. He was afterwards promoted to the rank of corporal, and attached to the machine gun section of the same battalion. He took part in the Dardanelles expedition, and was for five weeks in the thick of the strenuous fighting on the Gallipoli Peninsula. He died of Dysentery in the 21st General Hospital, Alexandria. In a letter his Commanding Officer said: “He was a good soldier, and one of my most reliable men, and was always a popular lad; and every one of his comrades, as a lasting token of respect, contributed towards erecting a white marble cross and border on his grave with a very neat inscription.” Arbroath Roll of Honour, page 43.

He was the brother of Sapper John Pattullo Muckart 167792, 105th Field Coy, Royal Engineers, who was killed in action 30.05.1918.
