Frederick P. Wellwood   Captain Loyal North Lancashire Regiment

SUDDEN DEATH OF RECRUITING OFFICER.

THE LATE CAPTAIN F. P. WELLWOOD.

Captain Frederick P. Wellwood of the Recruiting Staff at Dundee, died very suddenly while engaged in his military duties in the office in the Nethergate.  Captain Wellwood who resided in Carnoustie, was not feeling very well when he arrived at the office, and he had a seizure shortly before noon which quickly proved fatal.

He was a very capable officer.  Prior to the war he was a schoolmaster at Carnworth in the West of Scotland.  He had many years’ experience as a volunteer and Territorial officer of the H.L.I., and, although in middle life volunteered for service at the outbreak of war.  He was posted to the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment, with which he remained for some months.  Afterwards he was transferred to the recruiting staff at Dundee, where he had been engaged for nearly two years.

Captain Wellwood is survived by a widow and family.  He has a son in India, and another son is an officer of the Royal Scots.
