More about George Crammond
For reasons unknown this man is not listed on the original Dundee Roll of Honour.
George Crammond was the son of Mrs Isabella Crammond of 24 Abbotsford Street, Dundee and was a Master Grocer when, at age 36, he was called up for service in the Royal Naval Air Service in January 1918. After initial Naval training at Fulham in London he was sent to the Royal Naval Air Station at Chichester in West Sussex as an Aircraftsman 2nd Class on 30 March 1918. On 1 April 1918 the RNAS was merged with the Royal Flying Corps to form the Royal Air Force. The cause of his death is not known but it is highly possible that he died from influenza whilst serving at RAF Chichester. He is buried as Private First Class George Crammond, Royal Air Force in Dundee Eastern Necropolis grave reference Q2 56-57.
His father George was a Fireman with Dundee Fire Brigade, who lost his life with three other firemen while firefighting at a blaze at Clepington Waste Works, Dundee 11.02.1884. For more information on the fire, visit here
