More about George Gouk
George was believed to be the brother of Pte David Gouk, 240684, 4/5th Black Watch, who was killed in action 27.09.1917
George was awarded his Military Medal for his actions with the 4/5th Battalion during their assault on German positions around Kitcheners Wood on 31st July 1917. He was wounded during this action and was transferred to the 9th Service Battalion. In 1921 George emigrated to Canada where he was married and settled in Winnipeg. On 7th Sept 1939 George enlisted with the Queens Own Cameron Highlanders of Canada. He was appointed C.S.M, on 22nd Feb 1941 and was still serving with them when they took part in the raid on Dieppe for which he was awarded the D.C.M.
Following the end of the war George and his family returned to Scotland and settled in Montrose and worked with Britsh Railways in the Local goods dept.
