More about George Shepherd

George Shepherd   Royal Marine Light Infantry

DUNDEE SOLDIER A PRISONER IN GERMANY.

Colour-Sergeant George Shepherd, Royal Marine Light Infantry, who is well known in Dundee, is a prisoner of war in Germany.  Giving his address as R.F.R. 834, Colour-Sergeant G. Shepherd, R.M.L.I., Gefangenen, Lager, Doeberitz, Germany, this soldier writes to his brother, Mr Jas. Shepherd, 53 Murray Place Logie Street, Lochee :____ “I hope you are all quite well.  You see, my career has come to a sudden stop.  I was captured near Antwerp, and am now a prisoner of war, but I am quite well and as comfortable as possible.  I am not allowed to say anything about the war, so when you answer this do not say anything.  You need not put any stamps on.  I am allowed to get letters or parcels.  I can only send a card occasionally, so I may not be able to send you another one.”

A DUNDONIAN CAPTURED NEAR ANTWERP.

“I am a prisoner of war, captured near Antwerp,” writes Colour-Sergeant Geo. Shepherd, R.M.L.I. a Dundee man, who is interned at Doeberitz to his father. Colour-Sergeant Shepherd, who has a brother in Lochee, says they had a very rough time of it.  He has nothing but what he stands in, although he is thankful that he has escaped unhurt. Naturally his relatives, who reside in the city, are overjoyed at the thought that he is alive and well, though a prisoner.
