IRONS___At 45 Dens Road, Dundee, on 29th October, Alexander Irons, Engine Room Artificer, Royal Navy, youngest son of Elizabeth and Charles Irons. Died when home on leave.

Alexander Irons was the son of Mr Charles and Mrs Elizabeth Irons of 45 Dens Road, Dundee and volunteered to join the Royal Navy as an Engine Room Artificer in February 1916. After initial training in Portsmouth he joined the battleship HMS London in the Adriatic. He remained in this region serving in the battleships Prince of Wales and Queen. HMS Queen had been converted into a Depot Ship for vessels of the Otranto Barrage, deployed to block up the Austro Hungarian Navy in the Adriatic. Alexander Irons was given leave in September 1918 and spent it in Dundee. Unfortunately, he became ill and died at home from influenza and is buried Dundee Eastern Necropolis. G 5 65A. The Peoples Journal of 9/11/18 carries a notice of his death.
