James B Louie was the son of Captain James Louie of Dundee and Glasgow and was born in Broughty Ferry. His home address was 3 Church Street, Broughty Ferry. He served as the Chief Officer of the Sardinian in 1915. In 1918 his ship was the Pomeranian which was torpedoed by the German Submarine UC-77 off Portland Bill, Dorset when she was en route from London to St John, New Brunswick, Canada. Only one crew man was rescued. One hour after the ship sank he was found perched on the topmost yard which was sticking out of the water where the ship sank. James Louie and 54 crew members were lost in the sinking. On the Tower Hill Memorial his name is recorded as J B Lonie. Listed in Canadian Merchant Marine.
