James married his first wife, Margaret Small Henderson of 51 Hospital Wynd, Dundee in December 1912. Together they had a son James, and Margaret died within a few years, he married Margaret’s sister Rachel Henderson of 178 Lochee Rd, Dundee, in 1921, they went on to have 6 children together.

“James Robertson, 1 Anstruther Road, Dundee, who was a well known member of the city’s insurance
and motoring community, has died in the Royal Infirmary aged 78.
Mr Robertson retired in 1953, after 34 years as manager of Dundee branch of the Motor Union
Insurance Co. Ltd., during which time he was also local representative of the Automobile
Association. He began his carrer as an inspector with the Car & General Insurance Corporation.
ltd., in 1912.
After three years in the Army Service Corps, he returned to the city and opened the Motor Unions’s
Dundee office. He was largely instrumental in restarting the Dundee Motor Club, of which he was
a past-president and life member.

Founder-Member

He was a founder memeber of Downfield Golf Club, and also had a long association with the Scout
movement, of which he was at one time chairman of the Dundee western district.
After his retiral, Mr Robertson unsuccessfully contested a Town Council seat as a Progressive
candidate.
He had held most of the positions open to a layman in the Methodist Church. He was a life-long
member of Ward Road Church.
He is survived by his wife, four sons and two daughters.”
