James enlisted in the Scots Guards and was promoted Lance Corporal 23.06.1916, Corporal 12.05.1918 & Lance Sergeant 06.08.1918. He was admitted to 3rd Scottish General Hospital, Glasgow on 30.08.1918 with Appendicitis, finally being discharged 06.11.1918. James died aged 64 in 1961.

DUNDEE GUARDSMAN WINS MILITARY MEDAL.

Another name has been added to the list of Dundee men who have been decorated for gallantry in the field in that of Sergeant James Scrimgeour, Scots Guards, who has been awarded the Military Medal.

Sergt. Scrimgeour, who is a son of Mr and Mrs J. Scrimgeour, 18 Ferry Road, is at present in hospital suffering from appendicitis.  He enlisted in the Scots Guards in January, 1915, and has been in France for eighteen months.  The gallant sergeant was also a year in London training recruits.  In civil life he was employed by Mr A. Wood, butcher, Ferry Road, Dundee.
