More about John Borland

John Borland was the son of Mr John Borland of Ann Street, Dundee and was married to Mrs Alexandra Borland of Kidd Street, Dundee. He joined the Royal Naval Reserve at Leith in 1915. During the war he served in several small ships which were attached to different Base ships for administrative support. In 1917 he was serving in the Mediterranean based at HMS Osiris II, probably at Mudros in the Aegean, and was drafted to HMS Louvain. HMS Louvain was an Armed Boarding Vessel which was sunk in the Aegean Sea by UC-22 whilst on passage from Malta to Mudros and over two hundred men were lost leaving about sixteen survivors. His name is recorded on the Portsmouth Royal Naval Memorial on Southsea Common in Hampshire.
