John E. Hanlon   Royal Navy

DUNDEE MAN ON H.M.S. TIGER

WISHES FOR ANOTHER GO AT THE ENEMY.

The ubiquity of the Dundonian is proverbial.

The latest example of this is the on H.M.S. Tiger during the great naval battle of a week ago of John E. Hanlon, son of Mr John Hanlon, 45 Cowgate, Dundee.

Writing to his father, the gallant sailor says :―

“Just a line to let you know I am still in the land of the living.  I suppose you will know by now about our scrap.  You should have seen the old Tiger bound into action.  My, we gave them socks.  It was a hot three hours, and I may say we are feeling proud of the Tiger, and if they want some more, we are quite willing to give it to them.  I am all right, and haven’t got a scratch.  You can say now that I have done something.  I may tell you that I had the pleasure of helping to launch the torpedo into the tube that sank the Blucher.  I would really like the old Tiger to have another go at them before long,”
