MILITARY HONOURS FOR DUNDEE ITALIAN. Private Michael Borzoni, Italian Infantry, who is well known in the Blackscroft and King Street districts of Dundee, has just been awarded a medal equal in merit to our Victoria Cross for bravery in the field. He took a conspicuous part in the retaking of Italian trenches which had been captured by the Austrians.
Private Borzoni is a brother of Mr Joseph Borzoni, confectioner, Murraygate, Dundee, and assisted in his business. He left the city on Italy’s declaration of war, and has been in the service of his country for about one year. He was wounded some time ago. The Courier, Monday, 19 March 1917, 4.
DUNDEE ITALIAN HERO KILLED. Intimation has been received by Mr Joseph Borzoni, 52 Nethergate, Dundee, that his brother, Pte. Michael Borzoni, was killed in action on 16th May. Deceased, who was 26 years of age, was called to the colours when Italy threw in her lot with the Allies, and shortly afterwards he proceeded o the front, where he went through severe fighting.
In recognition of his gallantry he was awarded the Italian medal equal to the V.C. in the British Army. Pte. Borzoni was a well known man in Dundee, and was engaged in business on his own account in Blackscroft. The Courier, Thursday, 5 July 1917, 4.
