More about Michael Clarke

Michael Clarke   Royal Scots Fusiliers

DUNDEE SOLDIER WOUNDED.

Fully a week ago Mrs Clarke, 7 East Henderson’s Wynd, received intimation from the authorities that her husband, Private Michael Clarke, of the Royal Scots Fusiliers, had been wounded, and she was buoyed up with the last words in the message – “Not severe.”  On Tuesday last she received another postcard which had been written by a chum on behalf of Michael, who was not able to pen the epistle, asking for pipes and tobacco.  This request seemed to betoken that her husband was improving, and the articles were immediately sent off.

On Saturday, however, Mrs Clarke’s hopes were blighted on receipt of the following telegram from the military authorities :—“Regret to inform you that your husband is seriously ill in Colchester Military Hospital.”  Private Clarke is a reservist, having served seven years with his regiment in India.  He was employed as a cutter with Malcolm Ogilvie & Co., Ltd., Constable Works.
