More about Patrick Stewart Easton

Patrick S Easton was the son of the Mr Alexander and Mrs Mary Ann Stewart Easton of Dundee. He was the nephew and adopted son of Alexander Taylor Keir, 4 Clyde Street, Port Glasgow and was employed as an Apprentice Angle Ironworker. In November 1914 he volunteered to join the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve for sea service but in April 1915 he was transferred from Chatham Naval Barracks to the Collingwood Battalion in the Royal Naval Division. He gave his name as Stewart Easton. He was sent to Blandford Camp in Dorset for military training. The Collingwood Battalion landed in Gallipoli in late May 1915 and took part in the Third Battle of Krithia on 4 June 1915. This was their first and last action because, as they advanced towards the enemy line, they were caught in heavy Turkish artillery and machinegun fire. The number of dead and wounded was very high and the Battalion was disbanded two days later. The survivors were distributed to the other RND battalions to replace their losses and Stewart Easton joined the Anson Battalion. He was reported as Killed in Action in September 1915 and was buried in the Orchard Gully Cemetery by the Reverent F Cairns, a Dundee Minister attached to the RND. After the was he was reinterred in the Skew Bridge Cemetery Memorial on Gallipoli.
