More about Peter Hutton Donald

Peter was in the Army Services Corps from 1915, serving in South Africa and then as part of the 9th Scottish Division serving in France and Belgium before completing his service in the British Army of the Rhine in 1919 in Cologne. He returned from the War having married Catherine (Kate) Dibbs in 1918 in Dundee, and was allocated one of the first houses on the Logie Housing Estate in Sycamore Place before going to a new build house on Marchfield Road in 1834. They had 2 daughters, Winifred and Anne. Winifred was a teacher at Harris Academy and Anne became a doctor, a Community Paediatrician in Dundee. Peter worked as a clerk with Victoria Works, Jute Industries but also ran the William Donald, family plumbing and tinsmith business at Gardiner’s Lane, Dundee. He suffered badly from chronic bronchitis and asthma made worse by his time in desert conditions during the War. He died in 1963.

Information and images very kindly supplied by Peter’s grand daughter Patricia Lovatt.
