Three years prior service with Gordon Highlanders (Home and Foreign). Veteran’s Death Card records NOK as his spouse Catherine Lawrence of 164 Dundas Street, Grangemouth, Scotland. He married Ethel Cooper on November 7, 1919. She died during the birth of their daughter Ethel Mary C. L. Lawrence on August 31, 1920.
Uploader’s Research notes: Middle name from Ancestry records. [Private Army Canadian Infantry 6th Battalion F Company A member of the First Canadian Contingent which sailed from Canada as part of the 2nd Infantry Brigade on the 3rd of October onboard the S.S. Lapland arriving at Plymouth on the 14th of October. Training continued at West Down South Camp Salisbury Plain until the 15th of December when the Battalion left the Brigade in order to convert back to the cavalry role as the Depot for the Canadian Cavalry Brigade. The Battalion Disbanding on the 22nd of January 1915 excess personel being transfered to the 8th and 10th Battalions. Private Army Canadian Cavalry Fort Garry Horse Military Medal Bois-du-Mont-aux-Villes Wood On 9 October 1918, Pte Lawrence was in the charge with his troop on BOIS-DU-MONT-AUX-VILLES WOOD. After killing several of the enemy with his sword and his section leader having become a casualty, this man commanded the section capturing two machine guns and 12 prisoners. Throughout, this man showed great courage and devotion to duty. ]
