Mrs John C. Jack, Park Street, Arbroath, who had written to her son Private Robert L. R. THE LATE PRIVATE JACK.
On Saturday, Mrs Jack, 33 Park Street, received a letter from the Chaplain of H.M. Forces, No 7 Casualty Clearing Station, British Expeditionary Force, which confirmed the sad fact, briefly reported in our issue of last week, that her son, Private Robert L. R. Jack had died of wounds. The letter which is dated 15th February, is as follows :― “I am exceedingly sorry to have to tell you that your son, Private Robert L. R. Jack, of the 5th Black Watch died in No. 6 Hospital here yesterday of gunshot wounds. He came in on Saturday and after his wounds had been dressed he seemed fairly comfortable, but yesterday morning he became rapidly worse and quite suddenly collapsed. I regret to have to write such bad news. I can only assure you that everything possible was done for him during the time he was here. I laid him to rest this morning side by side with comrades who like him have given their lives for their country in this frightful struggle. I pray God in his love to comfort and sustain you in your sorrow. ―I am, sincerely yours, FRED E. BRUCE.
