More about Robert Smith

For reasons unknown this man is not listed on the original Dundee Roll of Honour.

DUNDEE HIGHLANDERS FATE.

MISSING AND UNOFFICIALLY REPORTED KILLED.

Mystery surrounds the fate of Private Robert Smith, a Dundee man in the 2nd Cameron Highlanders.  Mrs Smith and her two little children reside at 7 Lyon Street, and intimation has been received from the War Office reporting that Private Smith is missing, and the fateful words added, “but unofficially reported killed.”  There is however, a ray of hope, inasmuch as many men of whom similar reports have been made have eventually rejoined their regiments, or, at least have been made prisoners of war.  Private Smith was a reservist, and prior to the outbreak of war he was employed in Wellfield Works (Henry Boase & Co., Ltd.), Dundee.
