Thomas Carstairs 13364 Scots Guards
Mr and Mrs William Carstairs, Cults Farm, Ladybank, have been notified of the death in action of their second son, Corporal Thomas Carstairs, Scots Guards. Corporal Carstairs, who enlisted shortly after the outbreak of the war, and had been in the trenches for over a year, was previously, for ten years, a member of the Dundee City Police. On the day on which he met his death his Captain was killed beside him, and a letter from his Major contains a touching reference to his bravery and self-sacrifice and the fine example he has left behind him. Mr and Mrs Carstairs have other two sons in the army―Private David Carstairs, Australians, who is at present in hospital wounded, and Private Andrew Carstairs, R.F.A., who is at the front again after recovering from wounds. Much sympathy is felt for Mr and Mrs Carstairs in the loss of their gallant son.
