Walter Douglas Abbott  M.M.  S/14686   Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders

DUNDEE MAN DECORATED BY LORD FRENCH.

Lance-Corporal Walter Douglas Abbott, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, eldest son of Mr G. Abbott, 1 Gowrie Place, Dundee, has been awarded the Military Medal in recognition of his services on the Somme in saving a machine gun from capture.  The gallant soldier was decorated by Lord French at Edinburgh on Saturday.

He enlisted in October, 1915, and proceeded to France in the following July, and was at the front for seven months, being invalided home with trench fever.  He is a former pupil of Harris Academy.

Lance-Corporal Abbott, who is 22 years of age, was prior to enlistment a clerk in the employment of Wigglesworth & Co., flax and hemp merchants, Euclid Crescent, Dundee.
