More about William Ogilvie
William Ogilvie was the son of Mr William Kay Ogilvie and Mrs Christina Ogilvie of 43 Dalhousie Street, Monifieth and studied at the Dundee Technical Institute (Student No 2111) between 1905 and 1908. Between May and November 1915 he was serving as Fifth Engineer onboard the Glasgow registered foreign going cargo ship Clan Cumming. This was his first ship and travelled from Glasgow to Calcutta and back via Liverpool and Capetown. In 1917 he was the Third Engineer onboard the Australbush, a defensively armed steamer of 4,398 tons. She was traveling from Le Havre to Cardiff in ballast when she was torpedoed by the German submarine UC-31. William Ogilvie was one of two men killed in the sinking and he is commemorated on the Tower Hill Memorial in London.
