DUNDEE SOLDIER KILLED IN ACTION.

Another Dundee soldier has given his life for his country.

Intimation has been received in Dundee of the death in action at La Bassee on 29th December of Private Francis Carroll 1st Black Watch.

Private Carroll was an old campaigner.  He was 35 years of age.  On the outbreak of the Boer War he was in the 3d Battalion Royal Highlanders (militia), and he volunteered his services.  He passed through the whole of the Boer War without sustaining even a slight wound.

When Britain became involved in the great European war, Private Carroll was employed in Dundee as a hackle-grinder.  Again he volunteered for service.  He was stationed at Nigg for a short time before being sent to the front.  His widow and a family of three mourn his loss.
