James Gaffney 9551 1st Seaforth Highlanders
DUNDEE SEAFORTH KILLED.
Official intimation has been received by Mrs Gaffney, 3 John Street, Dundee that her husband, Private James Gaffney, 1st Seaforth Highlanders, has been killed in action at the Persian Gulf.
Private Gaffney has been connected with the army for sixteen years, and being a reservist, was called up on the outbreak of war. He was wounded at Dixmude, but on recovering was again able to take up service with his regiment, and came through the battles of Neuve Chapelle and Loos. He was with the 1st Seaforths when they were transferred to Mesopotamia a few months ago.
Prior to the outbreak of war, Private Gaffney was employed in the oilcake factory of J. & J. Cunningham, Limited, East Dock Street, Dundee. He leaves a widow and two young children. Private Gaffney was 32 years of age.
