William Halliday 3268 4th Black Watch
WIDOW AND SIX YOUNG CHILDREN
MOURN LOSS OF PRIVATE HALLIDAY.
Private William Halliday, of the 4th Black Watch, who has been killed in action, leaves a widow and a family of six young children. Mrs Halliday, who resides at 13 Larch Street, Dundee, has received the following letter from Lieutenant S. H. Steven :–“It is my painful duty to inform you that your husband, 3268, Private W. Halliday, was killed in action to-day, 9th June. A shell burst in the trench where he, along with other five of his companions, was lying asleep. It may be some comfort to you to know that death was instantaneous.”
Private Halliday was 34 years of age, and before enlisting at the outbreak of war was employed in Blackness Foundry. Mrs Halliday has two brothers who are soldiers. Private William Cosgrove, of the 2d Camerons, is at the front and Private Philip Cosgrove, of the Royal Scots, was wounded and taken prisoner at the battle of Mons.
