More about Charles Harrow

Charles has no known grave but is remembered on the Le Touret Memorial.

the four sons of Mrs Harrow, 32 Larch Street. The brothers had all served with Dundee’s Own, but Charles enlisted in the regular army and was serving with the 1st Black Watch when he left for the front in December 1914.
The others, 565 Pte. Alexander Harrow and 566 Sgt. Robert Harrow, were with the 4th Battalion when it left Dundee in February 1915, and 3860 Pte. William Harrow joined them in July.
Robert Harrow would lose his life at Neuve Chapelle in March, Charles was listed as missing after the Aubers Ridge, Alexander was wounded at Loos in September, and discharged two months later, while William was one of many in Dundee’s Own who fell in the same action.

Mrs M. Harrow, who lives at 32 Larch Street, Dundee, has the honour of giving as many as four sons to the service of King and country. Already one has fallen, namely Sergeant Robert Harrow, and the latest news to hand is that a brother, Private Charles Harrow, has been missing since 9th May. Mrs Harrow’s four sons were all in the 4th Black Watch, but Charles Harrow enlisted in the regulars in the autumn, and was attached to the 1st Black Watch. He was wounded in the arm on Christmas Day.
The other two brothers, Alexander and William, are still at the front. Sergt. Robert Harrow was killed at Neuve Chapelle. Private Charles Harrow, now reported missing was formerly employed in the Water Department. He has a wife and four children at home, while other two members of the family died in the spring.
