WORMIT SOLDIER IS MENTIONED

IN SIE DOUGLAS HAIG’S DESPATCH.

Gunner Robert T. Lawson, Royal Field Artillery, who was mentioned in Sir Douglas Haig’s recent despatch for distinguished conduct in the field.  Gunner Lawson who is the youngest son of Mr and Mrs Robert Lawson, Helen Villa, Wormit, was amongst the first of the young men in Wormit to enlist at the outbreak of war.  He has been in France for the past fourteen months, and has had many thrilling experiences.  On a recent visit home, he brought with him many souvenirs in the shape of pieces of German shells which had just missed him.

Previous to enlisting Gunner Lawson was teller in the British Linen Bank (West Port Branch), Dundee.  His is the first military honour to come to Wormit.

WORMIT ARTILLERYMAN KILLED.

FORMERLY MENTIONED IN DESPATCHES.

Gunner Robert T. Lawson, son of Mr and Mrs Robert Lawson, Helen Villa, Wormit, was yesterday officially reported killed.  Gunner Lawson in civil life was in the service of the British Linen Bank (West Port Branch), Dundee.  He enlisted in the Royal Field Artillery at the outbreak of war, and was in France for the past fourteen months. About six weeks ago Gunner Lawson was mentioned in Sir Douglas Haig’s despatch for distinguished conduct in the field.

Corporal R. T. Lawson, Royal Field Artillery, Wormit, has been killed in action.  Corporal Lawson was the youngest son of Mr and Mrs Robert Lawson, Helen Villa, and previous to enlistment at the beginning of the war occupied the position of teller in the British Linen Bank (West Port Branch), Dundee.  He was mentioned for distinguished conduct in the field in a recent despatch by Sir Douglas Haig, and the news of his death, which came to hand on Tuesday, will be learned with much regret by his many friends on Tayside.
