Hood Bn. War Diary records no casualties 16/10/16, but records three casualties killed 18-19/10/16 (one killed 18th & two killed 19th), which is at odds with the official dates reported for the three men:- G. Miller (16/10/16), S.Martin (18/10/16) & J.Clark (19/10/16). AB Miller was probably one of the two men recorded as killed on 19/10/16. ; A Butcher ; b.15/6/1895 ; Next-of-Kin & home address: Mother, Jane, 11 Morgan St., Dundee.

DUNDEE MEMBER OF R.N.D. KILLED

Another Dundee member of the Royal Naval Division has fallen in action.  Mr and Mrs Millar, who reside at 11 Morgan Street, Dundee, have received notification that their son, A.B. George Millar, of the Royal Naval Division, has been killed in action.  A.B. Millar joined the R.N.D. in June, 1915, and saw service in the Dardanelles.

In a letter to his mother a comrade states that he was killed instantaneously, and was buried in a little regimental cemetery.  A brother of the deceased Private Peter Millar, is serving with the K.O.S.B., and is awaiting orders for active service.

George Miller was the son of Mr David and Mrs Jane Miller of 11 Morgan Street, Dundee. He was working as a butcher when, in June 1915, he volunteered to join the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve onboard HMS Unicorn for service in the Royal Naval Division. After initial Naval Training at the Crystal Palace in South London he was sent to Blandford Camp in Dorset for advanced military training in August. On completion, he was drafted to the Hood Battalion which was serving at Gallipoli and arrived on the Peninsula in December, just before the withdrawal in January 1916. The Hood Battalion undertook garrison duties in the Aegean Islands until May when it sailed for Marseille in France and to join in the fighting on the Western Front. In September George Miller attended a course at the 189th Brigade Bombing School in France to learn the intricacies of grenade warfare. However, he was killed in action in mid October during a quiet period for the Battalion. George Miller is buried in the Ancre British Cemetery, Beaumont-Hamel, Northern France, Grave Reference 2-B-16.
