More about John Rennie

John’s death is recorded as drowning.

John Rennie   9891   Royal Scots Fusiliers (Cameron Highlanders)

LOCHEE MAN IN CAMERONS IS KILLED.

A Lochee Cameron Highlander has given his life for his country.

The brave Highlander was John Rennie, whose home was at 19 Kirk Street, Lochee.  The news came from his brother-in-law, who is also at the front.  Writing home to his wife, the brother-in-law stated that he had been speaking to one of Rennie’s chums, who told him that “Rennie had gone down.”

No official information has yet been received from the War Office, and inquiry has been made to that Department.

Rennie, who was only 30 years of age, was a reservist, and was called up at the commencement of the war.  He was employed in the batching department at Cox Brothers, Ltd., Lochee.

He was married only a year ago, and leaves a widow and child.

Dundee Courier, 29 September 1914

For reasons unknown there is no record of a wife and child within his pension records.
