For reasons unknown Alex is not listed on the original Dundee Roll of Honour. Alexander enlisted with the 3rd Battalion Black Watch aged 18 on 1st May 1901. He was 5 foot 1/4 inches tall, 118lbs, with a fresh complextion, brown hair, light brown eyes and recorded as Roman Catholic. He married his wife Helen in 1910 at St Mary’s Chapel, Pollockshaws.

He received a good conduct medal on 07.05.1906 during his time with the Mounted Cavalry in Cairo. He served 13 years as a private with the 3rd Black Watch in Africa, Malta, Cyprus, Egypt and the Sudan and was serving with the 2nd Black Watch at the time of his death.

Alex is listed as Dunleavy on C.W.G.C.
