More about Alexander McDonald

Alexander initially enlisted with the 101st Battalion, Canadian Infantry before sailing with them to England. Whilst there at camp he was declared unfit for overseas service due to defective vision, which according to his service record was the result of a childhood accident when he was 6 years old. He served in the U.K. with the 4th Labour Battalion until 02.06.1917 when he was transferred to the 10th Canadian Railway Troops and was then sent overseas to France. He served until he was demobilised at Winnipeg, Canada 13.04.1919.

Whilst he was serving, his wife Annie was residing at 17 Harriet Street Dundee. Alexander previously served with the 4th Battalion, Black Watch 1898-1899, so would have been residing in Dundee at the time as this was a local Dundee raised battalion.

Alexander died aged 87 and was cremated and then buried at sea.
