More about Allan Dand

Allan Dand  D.C.M.   2575   Black Watch

DUNDEE D.C.M. IS KILLED IN ACTION.

A Dundee soldier, Private Allan Dand D.C.M., has fallen on the battlefield.  The sorrowful tidings were conveyed in a letter from the Rev. W. Crawford, chaplain, to his sister, Mrs Dunn, who resides at Denbeath.  He enlisted in the Black Watch three years ago, prior to which he worked in a Dundee Mill.  Right through from the start of the war he had been in the thick of the fighting, and was awarded the D.C.M. for conspicuous gallantry in carrying a wounded soldier while he himself was severely wounded to safety under a murderous fire of shot and shell.  He was 19 years of age, and a stalwart fellow.  His brother died recently from an illness contracted while on active service.

A brother-in-law, Private Wm. J. Dunn, Black Watch, a native also of Dundee, was killed by a sniper in April.

Dundee Evening Telegraph 14th June 1916

There is no record of this man being awarded the D.C.M.
