Aloysius Francis Dolan MM   200593   Black Watch

Mrs A. Dolan, 31 Rosebank Road, has been informed that her husband, Sergeant Aloysius Dolan MM  Black Watch, fell in action on 1st August.  Sergeant Dolan, who had been twice wounded, returned to France only six weeks ago.  He had been in the army for four years, and was awarded the Military Medal for bravery at Ypres in March, 1917.  During a night raid by the Germans the gallant sergeant, while in charge of a bombing party, did very good work in bombing the enemy, and succeeded in breaking the raid and also killing a number of the enemy.  Sergeant Dolan, who was 34 years of age, was a pipe manufacturer prior to enlisting.  He leaves four children.  A brother, William, is serving with the Scottish Horse.
