More about James Coutts Baird
James has no known grave but is remembered on the Ploegsteert Memorial.
Janes Coutts Baird Pte 1st Cameronians 43024, R Scots 27480
James was a married man with Children when Killed in Action during the German Spring Offensive of 1918.
He was serving with the 1st Bn Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) during this time have previously served in the Royal Scots. His service records are not amongst those that survived the blitz in London in WW2 and therefore it is not clear at what point he served with the R.Scots
What is known is that whilst serving in April 1918 he had already taken part in the Battle of Messines, (of 1918) and likely was killed at the follow up Battle of Hazebrouk which took place between 12 and 16 April 1918 as part of the German Spring Offensive
James has no known grave and is commemorated on Ploegsteert Memorial and he left a wife, Elizabeth and 4 children
