More about Thomas Lambert Crichton

Brother of Pte Angus Gunn Crichton S/25653, 8th Battalion, Seaforth Highlanders, who was killed in action 28.03.1918.

Thomas L Crichton was the son of Mr Daniel Crichton and Mrs Helen Crichton of 51 William Street, Dundee and was employed as a Mill Worker. Thomas L Crichton joined the Royal Navy as a Boy Seaman in June 1914 and trained at HMS Vivid, the Naval Barracks in Devonport and onboard HMS Impregnable, an old wooden wall Training Ship moored in the River Tamar. After the outbreak of war he was advanced to Ordinary Seaman and, in April 1915, drafted to HMS Blake, an old cruiser converted to a Depot Ship supporting a flotilla of destroyers. In April 1916 he returned to HMS Vivid for several months, was advanced to Able Seaman and then he returned to HMS Blake which was supporting the 11th Destroyer Flotilla of the Grand Fleet. He remained onboard HMS Blake for the rest of the war and became a victim of the influenza epidemic, dying onboard Hospital Ship. Thomas Crichton is buried in the Dundee Eastern Necropolis, grave reference GG 3 529.
