More about Eric Osterfield Arliss Andrews

Eric Andrews was the son of Mr Charles Arliss Andrews and Mrs Katie Josephine Andrews. He was married to Mrs Dorothy (Doll) Nellie Reynolds Andrews of Monteric, Clavering, Newport, Essex. He joined the Royal Naval Air Service as an Aircraftsman Second Class and served at the Royal Naval Air Station at Barrow in Cumberland. He was commissioned July 1916. After flying training he specialised in seaplanes and was appointed first to RNAS Calshot on Southampton Water and the RNAS Dundee in October 1917. In November 1917 he was piloting a Short Admiralty Type 184 tractor biplane which caught fire and crashed into sea 15 miles North East of St Abbs Head. The aircrewman, Gilbert W Bickle, was lost as well. Both men were based at the seaplane base in Dundee. Eric Andrews is named on the Chatham Naval Memorial in Kent.
