He was the brother of Pte Joseph Gaffney, 1728, 1oth Prince of Wales Own, Royal Hussars, who was killed in action 25.03.1918.

DUNDEE NEW ZEALANDER KILLED.

Private Owen Gaffney a Dundee member of the New Zealand Contingent, has been killed in action at the Dardanelles.

His parents, who reside at 59 Church Street, Dundee, have received official intimation of his death on 7th August.  Private Gaffney was previously reported missing.  He left Dundee about 4½ years ago for New Zealand, and answered the call at the outbreak of war, attaching himself to the New Zealand Contingent.

Deceased, who was 37 years of age, has a brother serving with the colours.
