More about Gilbert Laurie Doull

For reasons unknown this man is not listed on the original Dundee Roll of Honour.

Gilbert Laurie Doull   Lieutenant   Scottish Rifles

DUNDEE OFFICER KILLED IN ACTION.

Intimation has reached Mr and Mrs G. L. Doull, 3 Blackness Crescent, Dundee, of the death in action of their son,

Lieutenant Gilbert Laurie Doull, Scottish Rifles.

The deceased officer was born in Perth 21 years ago, and educated at the Academy there.  On coming to Dundee he was in the employment of Mr G. L. Wilson, “The Corner,” until September, 1914, when he enlisted in the Black Watch.  He was in France in the spring of 1915, and saw fighting at Neuve Chapelle and Festubert.  Commissioned in the summer of 1915 in the Scottish Rifles, Lieutenant Doull was on service in Egypt and Solonika prior to being invalided home in September, 1916.  This promising young officer sought the earliest opportunity to return to his duties, and in early February of this year he went to the front for the second time.  A host of friends will regret Lieut. Doull’s untimely death in the service of his country.
