On 23 October 1914, 6709 Pte. Walter Harwood, 2nd Seaforth Highlanders, was killed in action in France.
Harwood was a 35 year old reservist who had served throughout the Boer War. His wife, Margaret Ann Harwood, and young daughter, resided at 130 Seagate.
Harwood is buried in Houplines Communal Cemetery Extension, Nord, France.DUNDEE SEAFORTH KILLED IN ACTION. Intimation has been received by Mrs Walter Harwood, who resides at 130 Seagate, Dundee, that her husband, Pte. Walter Harwood, of the Seaforth Highlanders, was killed in action on 23d October.
Private Harwood, who was thirty-five years of age, was a reservist. He served with his regiment throughout the whole of the Boer War. Previous to being called up Private Harwood was employed in the erection of the King George Wharf at Dundee Harbour.
It was five weeks since Mrs Harwood had received any word from her husband, and fears were entertained as to his fate. Pte. Harwood is survived by a widow and a young daughter. The Courier, Tuesday, 17 November 1914, 4
