More about Jack Hunter Davidson

For reasons unknown this man is not listed on the original Dundee Roll of Honour.

John (Jack) H Davidson was the son of Mrs Emily Davidson, nee Campbell, of 139 Hilltown, Dundee and was employed as a Plumber’s Mate. He joined the Royal Navy in February 1917 and did his initial training at HMS Vivid, the Naval Barracks in Devonport and he was then drafted to HMS Imperieuse, a Base Ship at Scapa Flow in the Orkneys. . Jack H Davidson died from pneumonia onboard HM Hospital Ship China at Scapa Flow and is buried in the Dundee Eastern Necropolis, grave reference NN4.134. His final ship’s name is spelt incorrectly as Stranlet-Han in CWGC records. However, his last ship is noted on his papers is Cinceria and the Strathlethan was a tender. Records show that HMS Cinceria was a hired Banff registered drifter built in 1911 and, between July 1915 and 1919, she was used as a boom defence vessel in Scapa Flow.
