James formally served with 3rd/8th Battalion, Cameronians (Scottish Rifles). For reasons unknown he is not listed on the original Dundee Roll of Honour.
James Duffy 22348 –549154 Labour Corps
Died in Egypt from Pneumonia.
Lance-Corporal James Duffy, Labour Corps, has died in Egypt from pneumonia. L.-Corporal Duffy, enlisted in September, 1915, and went to Egypt with the Scottish Rifles about three years ago. He was wounded in the engagement at Gaza, and subsequently transferred to the Labour Corps. Deceased was 40 years of age, and leaves a widow and four of a family, who reside at 37 Forebank Road. Previous to enlisting, Lance-Corporal Duffy was head waiter in the Royal British Hotel.
