More about James Grimmond Donaldson

For reasons unknown this man is not listed on the original Dundee Roll of Honour. His three brothers all served during the Great War

L/Sgt John Gardiner Donaldson, 13909, 1st Battalion Scots Guards, killed in action, 27.09.1918.

Cpl David Leslie Donaldson, 153386, 79th Battalion Canadian Infantry, returned home safely.

L/Cpl William Donaldson, Prisoner of War and believed to have returned home safely.

James G. Donaldson   13861   Scots Guards

The first break in the patriotic family of Mr David Donaldson, West Kinnear Farm, Wormit, has just been made by the death in action of his son, Private James G. Donaldson, 1st Scots Guards.

Mr Donaldson received a few days ago a postcard from another son at the front stating that James had been seriously wounded in France.  This was followed by the news of his death.

Private Donaldson, who was 25 years of age, was a ploughman at Strathkinness previous to enlisting in April Last.

The other sons serving their King and country are :―Private John Donaldson 1st Scots Guards, who was a police constable in Dundee before enlisting ; Private William Donaldson 3/4th Black Watch ; and Private D. L. Donaldson 43d Battalion Cameron Highlanders of Canada.
