DUNDEE SERGEANT MAKES DARING ESCAPE
FROM GERMAN PRISON CAMP.
Sergeant John Crockett, of the Wiltshire Regiment, a Dundee man, has come through the thrilling experience of escaping from a German prison camp. He performed this remarkable feat some five weeks ago, after having been a prisoner of war for nineteen months, and is at present on holiday in this city.
Sergeant Crockett is a son of Mr James Crockett, 3 Hilltown, but his own home has for some time been at Gosport. He has had a twelve year’s connection with the Wiltshires.
Sergeant Crockett, all alone effected a daring escape from the camp in which he was interned. He got away under disguise one morning, and made tracks for the Dutch frontier. After an exciting tramp of sixteen hours, in the course of which he ran three narrow escapes from being detected, the gallant Sergeant stepped over into Holland and to safety.
