More about John Don

For reasons unknown John is not listed on the original Dundee Roll of Honour. John shares a final resting place with L/Cpl John Buchanan M.M. 290671, 1/7th Battalion Black Watch, who was killed in action 23.04.1917.

John Don   292880   Black Watch

MONIFIETH SOLDIER FALLS IN ACTION.

Another Monifieth soldier has laid down his life for King and country.  Mr James Don, Reform Street, received information this morning from the Territorial Record Office, Perth, that his eldest son, Private John Don, Black Watch, was killed in action on 23d April.

Deceased was 30 years of age, and took a keen interest in the Territorials, being in the ranks of the Black Watch when mobilised at the outbreak of war.  He had been in the thick of the fighting for over two years, having been twice wounded, and had again been in the firing line for a considerable period when he made the supreme sacrifice.

Prior to his military duties he was employed as a machineman with Messrs James F. Low & Co., Ltd., Monifieth.
