Former Dundee Policeman Dies of Wounds

“Mr and Mrs David Donaldson, Logie Farm, Newburgh have been informed that their forth son, Sergeant John G. Donaldson, Scots Guards, died of wounds on 27th September. Sergeant Donaldson, who was twenty four years of age, was formerly a member of Dundee City Police Force, and was a well known figure in the Overgate. He had been two years in France. One of Sergeant Donaldson’s brothers was killed in November 1916, another taken prisoner in March last, whilst another is at present in hospital.

His three brothers all served during the Great War.

Pte James Grimmond Donaldson, 13861, “C” Company, 1st Battalion Scots Guards, died of wounds 28.11.1915

Cpl David Leslie Donaldson, 153386, 79th Battalion Canadian Infantry, returned home safely.

L/Cpl William Donaldson, Prisoner of War and believed to have returned home safely.
