MEMBER OF PATRIOTIC FAMILY KILLED IN ACTION AT THE DADANELLES. Mrs Mudie, who resides at 19 James’ Street, Dundee, has four sons and one son-in-law serving with the colours at the front, and she has received official intimation that her seventh son has been killed in action at the Dardanelles. His name is Private John Mudie, of the 9th Batt. Australian Imperial Force. Private Mudie was 26 years of age, and answered the call at the outbreak of war. When in Dundee he was employed as a coal salesman. He left the city for Australia three years ago, and settled in Sydney, where he worked in a foundry.
Private Alexander is a member of the 4th Battalion Cameron Highlanders, and enlisted on the outbreak of war. He is 31 years of age, and was employed in the goods yard of the Dundee and Arbroath Joint Railway Company.
Thomas, who is 28 years of age, is a private in the 4th Black watch. He enlisted at the outbreak of hostilities, and was previously employed as a goods porter at the East Station.
Walter is also a member of the 4th Black Watch, and is 18 years of age. He answered the call in August, and was also employed at the East Station goods yard. Mrs Mudie’s son-in-law, Driver James Gilpin, who is a reservist, was recalled to his regiment, the Army Service Corps, at the outbreak of war. He is 26 years of age, and was previously employed as a carter by Messrs Wordie & Co. The Courier, Wednesday, 30 June 1915, 4.
